Business Development

The SPEDC contributed $60,000 to Energy Services BC- Business Development Initiative.  The initiative was a three year project to assist businesses in northern BC to benefit from contract opportunities with the oil and gas industry.

Infrastructure

Agriculture

The SPEDC gave $30,000 to help finance the rebuild of the Dawson Creek Auction Mart.

$20,000 of funding was contributed to create a Brand for the Peace Region in BC and Alberta. The Brand will help attract investment nationally and internationally to the Peace region’s agricultural industry.

Arts and Culture

The SPEDC contributed $20,000 to help relocate a pottery learning centre from Northern Lights College to the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre to support artists in the region.  The funding saved the services that were going to be discontinued by the college leaving a gap in this local industry that provides product for tourists as well as local residents in the region.

Energy

A contribution of $20,000 was given towards a Bio Mass study.  The study was conducted through the City of Dawson Creek and would benefit the entire region.

In 2008 and 2009 the SPEDC contributed $7000 in funding to assist Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge in hosting their Annual Coal Forum.

Tourism

Dawson Creek tourism conducted an impact study of the South Peace region and the SPEDC contributed $20,000 to help with the study.  The study was to compliment a previous one done for the North Peace as well to be used as a tool for further planning for the future in the South Peace region.

$50,000 worth of funds was contributed towards the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation to help promote a Regional Museum and Paleontology Research Centre for the Peace Region.
